The Help Depot
The Connection Depot is here
to help with your Internet connection problems. If you are experiencing
difficulty connecting to the Internet, we want to know about it and help
you resolve any issues. However, there are many possible break points
in a computing system that is set up to run on the Internet. The
role of Connection Depot is to provide you a connection to the Internet.
Your computer, its operating system, and applications are supported by
the appropriate vendor in each case, usually wherever you purchased your
equipment. Before you make a call for help, make certain you are
making a contact that will have the right kind of expertise and who is
responsible for the elements that are involved in your particular problem.
If it's a telephone connection problem we want to hear about it.
Connection Depot will help
you resolve any issues with your connection in all instances. If
it is a telephone line connection issue, we will work with you to find
a final resolution of your unique occurrence. We will make
every effort in that regard so that you and our staff are satisfied with
the outcome. We want your experience with the connection to the Internet
to be a good one and will work toward that goal.
Self-Help
The best first step to be
up and running on the Internet again is a self-help project. When
you have an unresolved issue, the first thing to do is to analyze
the event, even to the extent of writing it all down. Go over in
your mind what you were doing when the 'thing' happened, the steps you
took to try to recover, and the state of your equipment after the event
occurred.
After you have assessed the
occurrence, there are some things you should do before you contact anyone.
1. Follow your normal shutdown
procedure to reboot your computer system.
If your
system is locked up and has a reset button, usually on the front of
the processor,
push the reset button one time. The computer should shut
down
and reboot without any further prompting on your part.
If your system is locked up and you do not have a reset button, press the
Power button one time to turn off your machine. Wait about 20 Seconds
and
turn on the machine.
If the system suggests you let scandisk run, do so, and follow the
screen prompts.
Upon reboot and after running scandisk, when the system comes
back to a point that you see a normal screen, and you can
proceed in your normal manner, do so.
If you are back on track - Congratulations! - you've just learned
that a reset can 'clear out the garbage' and get you on your way.
(Of course, another way to reboot your system is to push the
following three keys, all at one time - CTRL+ALT+DELETE.)
2. Make certain that you
have a sufficient amount of hard drive storage
that
is sufficient to handle the applications that you are using.
3. The RAM must also be large
enough to handle the size and volume
of files
that you are using in your set up. Look at your software and
be sure
you know how much room it needs.
4. Check every connection,
even those you think may be ok, to make
sure
that they are firm and solid. Leave no room for doubt, check
them
all.
If you have gotten this far
and the system is functioning normally, you have solved your problem.
If you're not back up and
running, if you think we can help, send an e-mail and describe your event
as thoroughly as possible and we'll get back to you.
